SEEC Clean Energy Deployment Task Force Criticizes House Republicans’ Expensive, Dirty Energy Bills

December 17, 2025

Washington, D.C. – House Sustainable Energy and Environment Coalition (SEEC) Clean Energy Deployment Task Force, led by Rep. Mike Levin (CA-49) and Rep. Sean Casten (IL-06), released the following statement in response to the House passage of the Power Plant Reliability Act of 2025 (H.R. 3632) and Reliable Power Act (H.R. 3616).

“The Republican House Majority chose to close out 2025 with a stark reminder that they will prioritize the profits of expensive, dirty energy producers rather than make energy more affordable for the American people. The cheapest, most reliable forms of energy are also the cleanest. Yet, House Republicans attempted to force aging and expensive power plants to stay online at the expense of American ratepayers, as well as weaponize the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) to override federal agencies’ statutory obligations to clean up pollution.

“It’s far beyond time for an approach to energy policy that puts American consumers first and foremost. Our Cheap Energy Act provides real solutions to ensure that Americans have access to cheap, clean, and reliable energy. This includes a comprehensive approach to modernizing the grid, reorienting electricity markets to serve the American people, and building an affordable American future. Expanding access to cheap energy is the single most impactful thing we can do to lower energy costs for the American people.”
