SEEC Climate and Agriculture Task Force Applauds House Agriculture Committee Democrats’ Farm Bill Principles

February 9, 2024

Washington, D.C. – Today, the House Sustainable Energy and Environment Coalition (SEEC) Climate and Agriculture Task Force Co-Chairs, Rep. Chellie Pingree and Rep. Kim Schrier, released a statement following the publication of House Agriculture Committee Democrats’ Farm Bill principles.

“We applaud Ranking Member David Scott and the Democratic members of the House Agriculture Committee for holding the line against House Republicans in their efforts to undermine the Inflation Reduction Act’s (IRA) historic conservation and rural energy investments in the Farm Bill. Since the passage of the IRA, Democrats have made it clear that cuts to these programs are non-negotiable.

“These principles from the House Agriculture Committee build on the work we and our colleagues have done over the past year to push for the full utilization of IRA conservation dollars promised to our farmers and ranchers and safeguard IRA’s funding to help rural communities transition to clean energy. Further, the SEEC Climate and Agriculture Task Force met with farmers from red and blue states, reiterated the need to protect the $19.5 billion in IRA conservation funds, as well as championed climate-smart priorities for this must-pass legislation. We stand united with our Democratic colleagues on the House Agriculture Committee in opposing any attempt to cut our essential farm programs.”
