SEEC Decries Republican Crusade Against America’s Treasured Natural Resources

May 1, 2024

Washington, D.C. – The leaders of the House Sustainable Energy and Environment Coalition (SEEC), including Co-Chairs Reps. Doris Matsui, Mike Quigley, and Paul Tonko, Vice Chairs Reps. Don Beyer, Matt Cartwright, Sean Casten, Chellie Pingree, and Katie Porter, and Chair Emeritus Rep. Gerry Connolly, released the following statement in response to House Republicans’ multi-front attack on America’s clean air, clean water, and wildlife.

“This week in Congress, Republicans continued their shameless crusade to deliver free giveaways to polluters by attempting to undo the Biden Administration’s critical work to protect America’s treasured natural landscapes and iconic wildlife. Our public lands and wildlife are a core part of our nation’s identity, from the well-loved Boundary Waters of Minnesota to the Bald Eagles and Gray Wolves that are ecological foundations of America’s wilderness. Our public lands also deliver critical clean air, clean water, wildlife habitat, and valuable outdoor recreation opportunities for millions of Americans across the nation. Yet, Republicans have pursued a backwards wish list that would automatically approve fossil fuel drilling in Alaskan wilderness, give mining companies a free pass to dump toxic waste on our public lands, poison our environment and children with lead ammunition, and deliver the wholesale removal of protections for America’s iconic Gray Wolf species.

“House Republicans will do whatever they can to tip the scales in favor of guns, oil, and polluters. Their careless actions this week go against years of science-based evidence and public input for our federal agencies to deliver responsible and comprehensive stewardship of our nation’s public lands.”
