SEEC Slams Republicans’ Continued Failure to Address Trump’s Affordability Crisis
Washington, D.C. – The leaders of the House Sustainable Energy and Environment Coalition (SEEC), including Co-Chairs Reps. Doris Matsui, Mike Quigley, and Paul Tonko and Vice Chairs Reps. Don Beyer, Suzanne Bonamici, Sean Casten, Mike Levin, and Chellie Pingree, released the following statement in response to the House passage of the Unlocking Our Domestic LNG Potential Act of 2025 (H.R. 1949), REFINER Act (H.R. 3109), and Congressional Review Act (CRA) resolutions expanding oil, gas, and coal extraction on public lands in Alaska and Wyoming (H.J.Res.130, H.J.Res.131, S.J.Res.80).
“This past month, the American people have made it abundantly clear that Donald Trump’s self-inflicted affordability crisis is squeezing family budgets and crippling our economy. It appears that those warnings fell on deaf ears as House Republicans returned from their 7-week paid vacation having learned absolutely nothing from Trump’s painful government shutdown.
“Instead of cutting costs for American families, this week, House Republicans further strained families’ budgets by doubling down on dirty, expensive fossil fuels. These handouts for Trump’s billionaire friends and donors will expand fossil fuel development on public lands and offload U.S. natural gas to non-allied foreign countries. The economics are clear; with a steep increase in exports, natural gas prices in the United States are expected to climb by 16 percent over the next year. At the same time, electric bills for American households are already up 11 percent nationally since Trump took office and are set to spike even further. Despite these flashing red warning signs, Republicans seem unable to change course and propose a plan that lowers costs and delivers for American families, not billionaires.
“It is past time for Trump and Republicans to put American families first and lower costs for our constituents. The American people deserve real solutions to Trump’s worsening affordability crisis.”
