SEEC Statement on One-Year Anniversary of President Donald J. Trump’s Big Ugly Betrayal

July 2, 2026

Washington, D.C. – The leaders of the House Sustainable Energy and Environment Coalition (SEEC), including Co-Chairs Reps. Doris Matsui, Mike Quigley, and Paul Tonko and Vice Chairs Reps. Don Beyer, Suzanne Bonamici, Sean Casten, Mike Levin, and Chellie Pingree, released the following statement ahead of the one-year anniversary of President Donald J. Trump’s Big Ugly Bill (H.R. 1).

“This Saturday marks the one-year anniversary of President Donald J. Trump and his Republican majority’s Big Ugly Bill, an unprecedented betrayal of the American people that has unleashed higher costs on millions of American families across the country. Over the past year, Trump’s policies have increased average costs for American families by at least $2,000. Despite this catastrophic policy failure, Trump’s Rubber Stamp Republicans continue to push our country off the economic cliff, eroding the very foundation of our democracy and the right to a safe, healthy, and prosperous life in this country.

“President Trump promised to cut energy prices in half for Americans, but instead, residential energy prices have skyrocketed by 18%. Trump said he’d end inflation and make America affordable again. But since Trump took office, Americans have paid $1,600 more on groceries and other essential goods, thanks to Trump’s tariffs, $285 more at the gas pump, thanks to Trump’s reckless war of choice, and $1,497 more for health insurance, thanks to Trump’s Big Ugly Bill. Trump promised he would drain the swamp. Instead, his corrupt backroom deals have literally turned our nation’s iconic Reflecting Pool green and provided countless giveaways to his billionaire polluter supporters at the expense of hardworking families.

“For America’s 250th anniversary, we at SEEC reiterate our commitment to a shared national vision defined by a safe, just, and thriving future for all Americans. We will fight for the rights our founding fathers gave us—free and fair elections, checks and balances, and accountability for those in power—to help us achieve clean air, clean water, and a healthy democracy.”
