California Environmental Champion Rep. Ted Lieu Joins SEEC

April 10, 2015

The House Sustainable Energy and Environment Coalition (SEEC) is pleased to welcome Congressman Ted Lieu (CA-33) to its membership.

Congressman Ted W. Lieu ran for Congress to tackle climate change. He was elected in 2014 to succeed climate champion and former SEEC member Congressman Henry Waxman. Before being elected to Congress, State Senator Lieu co-authored California’s landmark Global Warming Solutions Act, as well as legislation to support climate change adaptation, promote the use of fuel efficient vehicles, and clean up California’s waterways. Congressman Lieu said of joining SEEC:

“Climate change is a threat to the future of humankind. The effects of climate change are happening before our very eyes, each and every day. The health of our families, the prosperity of our nation and the safety of our planet depend on our willingness to slash greenhouse gas emissions and build a green energy economy that is second to none.”

“As a member of SEEC, I will tirelessly champion legislation to cut carbon pollution, create millions of renewable energy jobs and drastically improve energy efficiency. I will soon introduce the Safe Climate Act of 2015. This legislation is inspired by the iconic environmental legacy of my predecessor and will build on the success of President Obama’s Clean Power Plan and California’s historic Global Warming Solutions Act.”

SEEC Co-Chair Doris Matsui (D-CA) added, “I am pleased to welcome my colleague from California, Ted Lieu, to SEEC. With Rep. Lieu’s help California has led the way when it comes to addressing climate change, and I know his experience will help persuade Congress to take the lead on climate action.”
