Rep. Scott Brings Climate Awareness to New Heights in Joining SEEC

June 25, 2014

Washington, D.C.—The House Sustainable Energy and Environment Coalition (SEEC) is pleased to welcome Congressman Robert C. “Bobby” Scott (VA-03) to its membership.

Rep. Scott said of joining SEEC: “From sea level rise to increased extreme weather, it has become clear that we are already seeing the acute harms of climate change. These threats have become particularly apparent in the third congressional district of Virginia, where the City of Norfolk has been listed as the city second most at risk for sea level rise in the United States, behind only New Orleans. I am honored to join the Sustainable Energy and Environment Coalition and I look forward to working with my colleagues in this coalition to combat the adverse effects of climate change and ensure that our nation’s natural resources are available for future generations to enjoy.”

“I am glad to welcome my colleague from Virginia to SEEC,” said SEEC Co-Chair Rep. Gerry Connolly (VA-11). “Representing the City of Norfolk, Congressman Scott knows firsthand that climate change is not a distant threat—it is a challenge already encroaching on our shores. SEEC will benefit from his insights as we work to push Congress to take action on climate change.”

With the addition of Congressman Scott, SEEC now has 57 members, bring the Coalition to its largest size since its inception in 2009.
