SEEC Added Four New Members in May

June 20, 2017

The House Sustainable Energy and Environment Coalition (SEEC) was pleased to welcome Reps Nanette Barragán (CA-44), Bonnie Watson Coleman (NJ-12), and Raja Krishnamoorthi (IL-08) to its membership in May. The Caucus was also pleased to welcome back Rep. Carol Shea-Porter (NH-01), who previously served in SEEC during the 113th Congress. This brings the total number of coalition members to fifty-three.

“As the co-chairs of SEEC, we are excited to have Reps. Barragán, Watson Coleman, Krishnamoorthi, and Shea-Porter on board,” said Reps Doris Matsui, Paul Tonko and Gerry Connolly. “These members are leaders in the fight to protect our public health, preserve our natural resources, and create a clean energy economy that safeguards our planet for future generations. Their voices and leadership will be an asset to the caucus, and we look forward to working with them.”

Representatives Watson Coleman, Barragán, Krishnamoorthi and Shea-Porter made the following statements about joining SEEC:

“I consider myself extremely fortunate to live in and represent a State that has so many organizations and individuals working every day to protect public health, our environment and quality of life. SEEC is the embodiment of those priorities here in Congress and I am excited to work alongside my colleagues to help move forward policies that seek to arrest global warming and protect our nation’s clean air, water and natural environment,” Rep Watson Coleman said.

“As this Administration seeks to strip funding for our natural resources they simultaneously threaten the health and safety of our communities and put our nation’s future in danger of long-term environmental and economic insecurity. It is up to us, our advocates and allies to ensure that we lead the charge in tackling climate change and protect not only our planet but the future of generations to come. I’m proud to stand with SEEC at the helm.”

“I represent one of the most polluted congressional districts in the country,” said Rep. Nanette Barragán.

“At a time when the EPA and many environmental protections are under attack, I am eager to work closely with my colleagues in this Caucus as I continue my fight to protect the health of children, families, and our precious natural resources.”

“As our country faces increasing economic and environmental obstacles, the need to invest in green technology and clean energy could not be more clear,” said Rep. Raja Krishnamoorthi. “I’m proud to join my SEEC colleagues in fighting for green technology and policies that will preserve our environment and improve public health while creating good-paying jobs.”

“I share SEEC’s commitment to bold actions that address climate change’s threats to our environment, our economy, our health, and our national security. Together, we can foster a green economy that drives innovation, creates jobs, and builds a safe and sustainable future for generations to come,” said Congresswoman Carol Shea-Porter.
