SEEC Co-Chairs Honor Congresswoman Louise Slaughter

March 23, 2018

Washington D.C. – Today SEEC Co-Chairs Reps. Paul Tonko, Gerry Connolly, and Doris Matsui released the following statement to honor their friend and colleague, Congresswoman Louise Slaughter, on the day of her funeral.

“Today we lay to rest our treasured friend and colleague, Louise Slaughter. Her great humor and her passion for public service will be dearly missed, and our thoughts are with her family during this difficult time.

Rep. Slaughter was one of the founding members of SEEC and a champion for sustainability. Her environmental advocacy began with her local fight to save Hart’s Wood in Perinton, N.Y. from development. As a Representative in Congress she repeatedly helped local businesses in Rochester develop and commercialize cleaner, more efficient energy technology, and she fought for the health of her community and many others as a longstanding co-chair of the Great Lakes Task Force and supporter of the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative.

She was a tenacious advocate for our health and environment and will be remembered as a selfless champion for others. Her example will continue to inspire us all.”
