Release: GOP Bill Puts Oil Interests Above Americans

June 21, 2012

House-Passed Bill is a Clear Giveaway to Big Oil

Image removed.WASHINGTON, D.C – Today, the House Sustainable Energy and Environment Coalition (SEEC) released the following statement after the House passed a so-called energy bill that provides more subsidies to the oil industry:

“House Republicans once again voted to put the interests of the American public behind those of Big Oil and their “Oil Above All Agenda.” This legislation provides more taxpayer-funded handouts to the oil industry at a time when oil production is at an 18-year high, imports are at a 17-year low, and Big Oil is taking in record profits. It weakens the Clean Air Act, threatening the air we breathe, while doing nothing to alleviate pain at the pump. Taxpayers are already giving Big Oil enough with $4 billion in annual subsidies and adding to their record profits with each fill up at the gas pump. Meanwhile, Big Oil continues to hand American workers pink slips. It’s time to end the giveaways to Big Oil and start transitioning to a clean energy economy that will provide Americans with sustainable jobs and long-term energy solutions.”
