SEEC Opposes Administrator Pruitt’s Efforts to Repeal Clean Water Protections

June 27, 2017

Washington D.C. – Today SEEC Leadership, including Co-ChairsReps. Paul Tonko, Gerry Connolly, and Doris Matsui and Vice-Chairs Reps. Matt Cartwright, Alan Lowenthal, Mike Quigley, Chellie Pingree and Jared Polis released the following statement in response to EPA Administrator Scott Pruitt’s announcement that the Environmental Protection Agency and Army Corps of Engineers will issue a proposal to repeal the Clean Water Rule.

“We oppose Administrator Pruitt’s decision to rescind the Clean Water Rule. Americans need an Environmental Protection Agency that will use the best possible science to protect our health and this nation’s natural heritage. This proposal to rescind the Clean Water Rule and reports of plans to reduce protections under the Clean Water Act greatly disturb us. Rather than protecting Americans, these actions constitute an attack on public health, our natural resources, and science.

The Clean Water Rule finalized by the Obama Administration protects the drinking water of 117 million Americans and helps ensure our safe access to the great outdoors, whether we are boating, swimming, hunting or fishing. In rescinding the Clean Water Rule, Administrator Pruitt and the Trump Administration are neglecting their duty to protect the health and safety of the American people and their natural resources.”
