SEEC Statement on Earth Day 2026

April 22, 2026

Washington, D.C. – The leaders of the House Sustainable Energy and Environment Coalition (SEEC), including Co-Chairs Reps. Doris Matsui, Mike Quigley, and Paul Tonko and Vice Chairs Reps. Don Beyer, Suzanne Bonamici, Sean Casten, Mike Levin, and Chellie Pingree, released the following statement on Earth Day 2026.

“On this Earth Day, we reflect on the status of the one shared planet we all live on and the promise of a healthy and thriving future for our children. Yet, at a time when we should be celebrating our shared home and reiterating our duty to be good stewards of our planet and our communities, our Republican counterparts are spending this Earth Day delivering a polluter’s wish list for Trump and his billionaire donors, at significant cost to the American people.

“Republicans’ scorched-earth attacks on our bedrock environmental and anti-pollution laws continue even on Earth Day. This week of all weeks, they are working to gut the Endangered Species Act – our nation’s foundational law for protecting America’s most imperiled wildlife. This is just the latest attack in an all-out assault on our planet since Republicans seized control of our nation’s capital. They have targeted laws that protect clean air and water, laws that conserve energy to prevent waste and pollution, and laws that would build a cleaner and cheaper energy future, all while continuing to drive up costs for the American public.

“The health of our planet and people are one in the same. And this Earth Day, we at SEEC reaffirm our promise to fight for a cleaner, healthier, and more affordable life for the American people. That’s why, this Congress our members have been developing solutions for the future, including the 38 bills we have endorsed through our Task Forces that embrace America’s natural treasuresdrive clean and affordable energy in our nationimprove the resilience of our food systemgrow the workforce we need for a clean and secure energy futurebuild resilient housing, and invest in science and innovative technologies in the fight against the climate crisis. This includes our marquee Energy Bills Relief Act, which already has the support of 130 members of Congress. The Energy Bills Relief Act will deliver for the American people and American businesses by lowering energy costs, increasing grid reliability, and reducing pollution with more renewable energy.

“As we turn the corner on America’s 250th year, we will continue to fight for what the American people want and deserve: clean air, clean water, and a healthy planet. This is the natural inheritance our children deserve, and we reiterate this promise to fight for their future this Earth Day.”
