Over the past two days, members of the House Sustainable Energy and Environment Coalition (SEEC) have taken to the House floor during one minute speeches to raise awareness and bring attention to the looming impacts of sequestration on energy and environmental programs. Members discussed the consequences of sequestration on water resources, water infrastructure, clean energy development, the electric grid, national laboratories, national parks, and wildlife management. The group also included calls for an extension of the wind production tax credit, due to expire at the end of the year.

Washington, D.C.—House Republicans again assaulted the health and safety of Americans today by attempting to gut laws that protect us from polluted air and water and that prevent mining companies from devastating communities through the practice of mountain top removal. This latest attempt is comprised of five anti-environment bills—four of which had previously been passed by the House but have gone nowhere in the Senate—and would be vetoed by the President.

Today, the House of Representatives passed H.R. 6213, the No More Solyndras Act, by a vote of 245 to 161. The bill freezes the Department of Energy’s (DOE) loan guarantee program by barring it from considering loan applications submitted after 2011. The loan guarantee program—created out of the Energy Policy Act of 2005, passed by a Republican-controlled Congress, and signed into law by a Republican President—has led to the creation of 60,000 jobs, doubling of renewable energy production, and leveraging of tens of billions of dollars in private capital for clean energy projects.

Today, a group of House Sustainable Energy and Environment Coalition (SEEC) Members took to the floor to call for an extension of the wind production tax credit (PTC) and wind investment tax credit (ITC). In an unprecedented bicameral effort, 8 SEEC Members joined Colorado Senator Mark Udall (D-CO) on the floors of their respective chambers to speak about the importance of the PTC and ITC to the American economy and the development of a clean energy future.
